Biography

Olivia Mugabirwe is a dedicated educator and community development activist with 31 years’ experience in teaching and community development work. She is a teacher trainer at Makerere University College of Education and External Studies and a Founder and Executive Director of PeerLink Initiative Uganda (PELI-U). Olivia has experience of working with youth from her time as a secondary school teacher at Namilyango College where she spearheaded school based adolescence sexual reproductive health education (ASRH) programs and was one of the pioneer teachers of Information Communication Technology (ICT).

Olivia joined Makerere University in 2006 and started PeerLink Initiative Uganda (PELI-U) and has been deeply involved in improving the teaching and learning environment through teacher professional development, integration of participatory learner centered methods of teaching and learning, promoting quality Early Childhood Education (ECD) and promoting a reading culture through the community based libraries. Olivia has served on a number of Board; is a Board Member of Girl Up Initiative Uganda, was once a Board member of St. Peter’s Secondary School Nyarushanje, Rural Health Promotion and Poverty Initiative (RUHEPAI), LATEK Stay Alliance, Uganda Community Libraries Association (UGCLA) and Uganda Association of University Women.
